ProLigand MATRIX
ProLigand MATRIX checks whether the published literature actually supports a scientific claim. It reports what it could not verify, names retracted work cited in a query, and says when its own evidence base was narrower than usual.
What it does
- Searches five open literature indexes and reads full text where it can.
- Grades each claim against the sources actually cited for it, by fixed published rules.
- Removes citations that cannot bear on the claim, and says which and why.
- Flags retracted work named in a query, and states plainly when a work could not be checked.
- Discloses when an index was unavailable, so silence is never mistaken for a clean result.

Fredj Ben Bdira is a protein scientist in Leiden, the Netherlands. He holds a PhD from Leiden University and spent over a decade in academic research — structural biology and biochemistry, including carbohydrate-active enzymes, bacteriophage and H-NS biology, membrane-protein mass spectrometry, and Gaucher disease — before founding ProLigand NEXUS in 2022. He publishes as Ben Bdira F.
Why it exists
A fabricated citation fails the moment anyone checks it. The costly failure is quieter: a real, correctly formatted, unretracted paper attached to a claim it does not support. MATRIX was built to find that — and to state clearly what it could not verify, rather than leaving silence to read as a clean result.
